The UNFCCC secretariat (UN Climate Change) is the United Nations entity tasked with supporting the global response to the threat of climate change. UNFCCC stands for United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Convention has near universal membership (198 Parties) and is the parent treaty of the 2015 Paris Agreement as well as the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.
The United Nations Framework Convention, on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was established back in 1992 as a treaty to address the growing concerns surrounding climate change.
Operating on principles such as varied responsibilities and capabilities the UNFCCC recognizes the different capacities of developed and developing nations when it comes to tackling climate change. It highlights the significance of development. Promotes international collaboration, technology sharing and financial support to aid in mitigation and adaptation efforts in developing countries.
The UNFCCC archives manages and preserves the history of the climate change negotiation processes of the Conference of Parties and the institutional memories of the UNFCCC Secretariat dating back to early 1990s.
