August 15, 1947 is one of the most significant dates in history. It was on this day that the dominion of India was declared an independent nation. Australia became the first country in the world to hoist the flag of independent India just seven hours after this declaration. And since then, the two nations have enjoyed an amicable relationship; however in the new world order - the amiability has to be extended, rethought and propagated.

Aussie-Indo relations date back to the pre-colonial times. What started as a trade partnership to facilitate the colonial white settlement, has since then blossomed into a diplomatic friendship with both countries not only forging political, economic and military ties; but also sharing a strong cultural connection with cinema, music and international sports like cricket and badminton. This gradual development of diplomatic, cultural, economic, and strategic ties over time has laid the foundation for a strong and enduring friendship with shared interests between the two nations. And one such shared interest includes education.

Since the independence of India, Australia has expressed its desire of having Indian students studying there.
